2.13 Interval Sets

A further extension of interval arithmetic allows better models of ``bumpy'' functions. A function is tex2html_wrap_inline33099 -bumpy if it is partial or discontinuous. In general, a function g is tex2html_wrap_inline31473 -bumpy if a better model exists for g in tex2html_wrap_inline33567 than in tex2html_wrap_inline31473 . Bumpy functions are formally defined in section gif. This extension also allows for natural models of multi-functions; multi-functions are functions that may return multiple results, such as tex2html_wrap_inline33587 .
