INTRODUCTION
The Collaborative Multimedia Research Group (CMRG) consists of roughly one dozen staff and student participants under the direction of Professor Ronald Baecker. CMRG's research explores the technology and application of collaborative multimedia. Four unifying themes characterize CMRG's research work: enhancing collaboration despite separation in space and in time, enlivening systems and interfaces through the use of multimedia, enhancing creativity through novel representations for visualization, and applying many of these ideas to improve computer-based education, as for example, in distance learning.
