Here is the waterfall at the En-Gedi oasis, which is near the Dead Sea, south of Jerusalem. This is supposed to be the place where David was hiding when King Saul was chasing him, trying to kill him out of fear and jealousy. The story goes that Saul went into a cave in order to 'cover his feet' (relieve himself); he accidentally chose the cave in which David was hiding. David, not wanting to kill Saul, snuck up and cut a bit of Saul's cloak unbeknownst to Saul. After Saul left the cave, David came out of hiding and called to Saul, explaining that he could have killed Saul, but chose not to. Saul was touched and called off the manhunt for David. However he resumed it sometime later. This area is a national park, and there are many trails through it. There are also old Roman forts, and a stone-age temple dating from several thousand years B.C. Nearby a cache of 416 copper objects were found which were thought to have come from this temple. Many of the objects are ornate figurines of animals, sceptres, etc. and were thought to have religious significance. They can be seen in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.`
